NERINE bowdenii Guernsey Lily - Detail
I am constantly surprised at the amazing array of plants that hail from South Africa. Most of us are familiar with the countless number of succulents and other drought tolerant plants of this Mediterranean region and as it turns out many blooming bulbs originate there too. Recently on a day trip to San Francisco's Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum I was lucky enough to catch these fall blooming bulbs doing what they do best. I believe I have just found my next must have plant :—,)*

I just found out that there's a terrific book called The Color Encyclopedia of Cape Bulbs by Manning/Goldblatt/Snijman. On sale at various times at various places. Timber Press is having a 30% off all books right now if you get their email.
