The Daily Dig
How cool is this?
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that August 23-29 would be National Community Gardening Week, and he is encouraging Americans to connect with the land. "Community gardens provide numerous benefits including opportunities for local food production, resource conservation, and neighborhood beautification," said Vilsack. "But they also promote family and community interaction and enhance opportunities to eat healthy, nutritious foods. Each of these benefits is something we can and should strive for."

Community gardens have many more benefits than those mentioned above including the satisfaction you get when you create something beautiful and are able to enjoy and share the fruits of your labor. They also provide a welcome oasis for the people, animals, birds and insects that visit them. If you haven’t been to a community garden, I suggest a visit to one; they are incredibly magical places and you can practically feel the love radiate from them.
If you would like to learn more about community gardening or are interested in joining or starting one visit the American Community Gardening Association web site.

If you belong to a community garden consider setting up a group on The Garden Geek. It’s a great way to communicate, organize and connect. In a group you have your own discussion board and pages and you can share projects and tradelists.
So there you have it. Go forth and garden!
