The Daily Dig
Visiting Petaluma CA recently, our newly transplanted friends Michael, Amy, and baby Ava Rose took us on a neighborhood walking tour that included a stop at McNear Elementary School. The school is a classic California school from the 1940's with a ranch style layout that hearkens back to an earlier time in California's educational history. Mcnear Elementary has remained polished and maintains it's original luster. Being a gardener, a new parent, and having just been on the Bay-Friendly School Garden Bus Tour...I was happy to find this wonderful example of what a elementary school garden can be.
Vegetable garden that includes a wash station
Making the connection from garden to pizza :)
Bean Tee-pee
Kiwi arbor
Roses to appeal to the sense of smell
Lots of room around each raised bed for working and exploration
In my opinion this is a prize winning example of an edible school yard :—,)*
Art in the garden
Outdoor class room next to the garden
