The Daily Dig
Los Angeles never ceases to amaze me. Just as you get stuck in your comfortable rut, something new happens in the city that excites you. In this case it's The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) that is exciting me. LACMA just opened The Lynda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition Pavilion...also known as The Resnick. This 45,000 square foot building was designed by Renzo Piano and will house exhibitions in natural light and offers an open floor plan.
The gardens that surround the building were designed by Robert Irwin, the artist who designed The Getty Center Gardens. Robert went the opposite route compared to what he did at The Getty. Instead of an abundance of flowers and succulents, he chose palms, cycads, bromeliads, and agaves. Texture, form, and color variations are the main focus of this garden. I like what Robert did but I feel like something is missing. The garden is still evolving and continues to be a work in progress...it gives me hope that when I come back in the future the garden will be more complete.

I know this is a gardening website, but I had to include some photos of two exhibits that I viewed when I was at The Resnick. Eye for the Sensual: Selections from the Resnick Collection and Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in detail, 1700-1915 are amazing and will be at The Resnick till January 2011 and March 2011. Try to see them if you live in LA or plan to visit soon.
