Here on Potrero Hill in S. F. we have lots of serpentine rock. I hired someone to plant and maintain a vegetable garden but he's not gotten good results. I'm wondering if it's the serpentine rock. Does anyone know what can grow on serpentine or how to garden here?

Hi Cielynn, I saw your post and have to admit that I had never heard of serpentine rock before, much less the issues that surround it where gardening is concerned... I found this link

Which seems to have some interesting information as well as some plants that you could consider. To me it sounds less like a garden or gardening, and more like letting the area be more natural. Can you tell me more about your space and post a few photos of the area you have to work with in a photo album on your profile? I might be able to get an idea or two about another way of going about creating a garden.
