The Daily Dig
I know, it is barely summer and here I am going to talk about fall ;)
Today I got my catalog from John Scheepers, a bulb dealer out of Bantam, Connecticut. Every year I make big plans to get some interesting bulbs in my garden but for whatever reason it hasn't come to be, but this year is going to be different. This year it will be all about Fritillaria, for the last two years I have been seeing this beauty growing wild in the Northern California landscape and have fell in love with it. It also seems to be a good omen for me, and would like to have some of its magic closer to home. John Scheepers has a great variety for sale and my pick will be Fritillaria melegris more common names are Snake's Head Fritillary, and Checkerd Lily, Circa 1575, it naturalizes well, has small, bell-shaped, checkered flowers in maroon-purple and white. It prefers light shade and cool, moist soil and I have just the spot. I understand from years past that they can sell out of some of their stock, so my order is going in early :) If you have or had plans to plant some interesting bulbs, this might be the year for you too. Stop by John Scheepers or any other specialty Dutch flower bulb seller and find your favorites.
