Ants Nesting in my Containers

I discovered that ants have decided to make a nice little home in my containers, which house basil, strawberries, tomatoes and zucchini. Should I be concerned about this, and if so, is there anything I can do to get rid of them - without digging out all the plants and starting over? Or should I just leave the pesky little ants be? Thanks for your help! Nancy

I read recently that ants don't like mint! Apparently you can puree mint and water and spray it on the affected area. Sounds rather refreshing!

I have found that ants will take up residence in my pots if I am not consistent with my watering. You probably have noticed them when you water and they come out in a big swarm. If you keep up your watering for a few days they will move on to accommodation's that are not being flooded out. :—)*

there is a product called em-1... you only need a little bit (if your feeling adventurous) to make a whole lot.... its organic...its living... its geeky... what you will need: a shot of em-1 a shot of molasses (organic) a gallon plastic jug with cap (dont use glass)(boom!) fill with water give it a good shake... put it somewhere dark and warm.... and wait a couple weeks this will make a big jug of em-1 its expensive at first, but you never buy it again. BUGS HATE EM-1... soil LOVES it.... its steroids for your compost bin. i would follow the manufactures instructions on how to apply it directly to the roots, but it should give the ants good enough reason to pack up and move to another container. start with a low dose... http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.471963/it.A/id.225/.f?sc=2&category=48
