About The Garden Geek

How did this site come about?
The Garden Geek began as Patrick Albin's personal gardening blog in 1999 as a way of sharing garden and plant photos with friends and family. From that tiny seed a community gardening site has grown. The Garden Geek provides anyone with an interest in gardening a place to meet with others and join in a culture of sharing on the topic of gardening. From newbie gardeners to expert planters and growers, The Garden Geek is a place where people can connect, share gardening tips & information, and contribute to the effort of making the world a greener place one garden at a time.

Why The Garden Geek?
The Garden Geek was founded on the belief that if you give people the right tools and information gardening can make them more productive and connected to something deeper and more meaningful in life. And as a result, anyone, no matter their lot in life, would have the opportunity to achieve health, happiness and a beautiful vibrant life through the promise of a beautiful garden of plants, flowers and food.

Service to people and the planet are my higher cause realized through The Garden Geek. It provides a connection to something more meaningful and helps create a deeper relationship with the natural world. More than anything else I believe in people and the planet and the purpose of The Garden Geek is to look after the well being of both through the simple act of gardening. Whether it is a garden of beauty to relax in and remove the stress of our modern lives or a garden to raise better tasting more healthful and sustainable organic foods or a combination of both, the simple act of gardening can sooth our souls, feed us, beautify our lives and the lives of those around us, and improve the health of our planet one garden at a time.

"I don't believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive".

The Garden Geek Manifesto

At The Garden Geek we believe that...

You can single handedly make the world a greener place by creating a garden.

Gardens can be made on rooftops and in the cracks of pavement.

Creating gardens doesn't require large amounts of space or money.

Children hold the future of our planet in their hands.

Gardening is the cheapest and best form of therapy.

Orange flowers can be seen from outer space!

Gardening is the best and cheepest source of stress relief.

You will bury or lose your hand trowel at least once over the weekend.

Vacation can start every week on Friday by relaxing in your garden.

No gardener can go to the nursery and come home empty handed.

The center of the universe can be in your backyard.
